IMC / IRR Theory: 1 Day Aeroplanes

The Great Circles Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) or Instrument Rating Restricted (IRR) Theory course will enable you to prepare for the ground examination and practical flying test for the IMC Rating more thoroughly, effectively and enjoyably than is possible using traditional study methods. The course also offers an excellent grounding in the theory and practice of instrument flying for those pilots embarking on a full Instrument Rating course.

A thorough analysis of human factors, pressure & gyro instrumentation and the effects of spatial disorientation is covered together with a revision of traditional navigation techniques to assist with an IFR route plan. Radio navigation and instrument simulation experiments are covered in depth so that the process of using the instruments on your flying course becomes easier. This is a fun part of the course that students find invaluable. The course concludes with an in depth look at instrument approach plates and an analysis of calculating IFR minima for approaches and landings.

The course lasts for one day with the examination taken at the end. The PPL IMC/IRR Theory examination consists of 25 multiple choice questions which have to be answered within 2 hours; requiring a pass mark of 75%.
