S.A.F.E.R. Secure Authentication & Flight Evidence Recorder

Project SAFER (Secure Authentication & Flight Evidence Recorder), exploits a number of recent innovations in encryption and authentication technology, together with the power of the 'cloud' to create a novel UAV pilot authentication system, which logs and communicates flight hours and flight data- the new virtual “Black Box”.

The project seeks to create a virtual “Black Box” to record data on UAV and Pilot journeys. Authentication, Data Integrity and Security are essential requirements. The adoption of authentication & crew activity monitoring into aerospace has been slow due to extensive and expensive development and prohibitive V&V costs.

SAFER is a unique approach that fulfils multiple innovative techniques in that it, a) acts as a mission verification tool that addresses crew status, b) provides critical flight data useful to authorities, air traffic service units, and crash investigators, c) provides a detailed logbook and flight analysis, d) provides data useful to engineering & maintenance facilities.
