About Our Venue
The Great Circle’s training venue is based in the beautiful town of Halifax, West Yorkshire. We are located very close to the town centre (within 0.5 miles) in the lovely historic Akroydon Conservation area. There are good rail and motorway links and the closest airports are Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool respectively.
Edward Akroyd (1810-1887), the founder of Akroydon model village, grew up among a small class of textile manufacturers made materially rich by new types of industrial production, yet who loved the medieval past and its richly imagined web of spiritual and social relations.
He envisioned a community that bridged the gap between the classes, a community that practiced social integration. The Akroydon model housing scheme is a Victorian era model village in Halifax. It was designed in the Gothic style by George Gilbert Scott in 1859 for the workers at the mills of Colonel Edward Akroyd, who had bought, in 1855, the 62,435 acres of land on which the houses were to be built. One of these magnificent buildings is now the home of The Great Circle, a beautiful and imposing Grade II listed period property with 5 floors boasting over 3,500 square feet of space!
The building has been sympathetically restored to provide a relaxing and stress free environment whilst at the same time maintaining a corporate image with a touch of class. Each of our 4 specialist training rooms have been tastefully designed to subtly promote aviation, whilst simultaneously accelerating your learning in a peaceful, relaxed and stylish environment. We have a break-out room to sit and relax during breaks, a games room with a pool and card table, and a bar serving soft drinks, refreshments and even high quality draft beer at the end of a hard days work, all at no extra charge!
Our training venue is truly a universe apart from noisy airports, the continuous smell of fuel, run down damp portacabins that you normally find on airfields, or a competitors kitchen or office! You'll be with us for 4 days, you need to be happy, and, above all, comfortable and relaxed. Your training environment improves your confidence and naturally contributes to your overall success in the exams. It's little wonder then that our clients even like to hang around at the end of the day in such a lovely building.
