Learn how to Design, Build & Maintain a UAV.
Have you ever considered building your own UAV but don’t know where to start? Are you put off by all the technical jargon when you look at an article on the web? Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place.
But why not just buy a ready to fly Dji Phantom for your first UAV? It’s more or less ready to fly right out of the box when it arrives on your doorstep. There’s one big problem with this, it’s very expensive when you crash. You will crash, that’s for sure.
Ready to fly UAV’s are generally built as a one piece unit, if you crash, the whole thing has to go in for repair. This can take a number of weeks and can cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds to fix. The vast majority of people who buy a UAV like a Phantom and have an accident, will on average spend between £300 and £500 to get it flying again.
A good quality UAV will be equipped with an auto-pilot, flight-controller and gps system. Your Radio and ground station equipment will also need to be of a similar quality to ensure your whole system is robust and reliable.
By learning how to design, build and maintain your own UAV, you will have an intrinsic understanding of all its working parts, know exactly how it was put together and know what part goes where. Spare parts are generally very cheap for UAVs, many of the major components are under £10! This way, if you crash, you can quickly and easily repair your own aircraft without spending a fortune and being without your machine for long periods of time.
Think about this, do you really want to spend between £500 and £1,500 for a UAV and then have to spend between £300 and £500 having it repaired each time you have an accident?
Designing, building, maintaining and repairing your own aircraft is much more fun, much more cost effective and you’ll learn lots along the way too.
