Maths for Mums 'n' Dads

Come join us for a coffee, bun and some number fun! We offer a very relaxed learning environment for you to develop your number know-how. Our Maths for Mums ’n’ Dads courses is specifically designed for adults who want to improve their maths skills. Perhaps your child has reached a level in maths where you're no longer comfortable with helping them, or perhaps you're chasing a promotion at work that requires better numeracy skills.

Our Maths for Mums ’n’ Dads course is designed to equip you with the tools required to not only help your child with the challenges they face at primary school and early on in secondary school, but also in the work place. Going right back to basics; starting with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, we will provide you with the vital skills you will need in the real world when it comes to using and applying maths. Perhaps you want to switch mortgage provider and want to understand how to get the best deal, or perhaps it’s a credit card or car finance.

It is very important that we see mathematics, and the calculations we perform, as a necessary  part of our daily lives. We provide opportunities to apply basic concepts and operations found in everyday activities, thereby reinforcing your skills and motivating you to progress in mathematics.

As well as knowing about the number system, we need to understand the ways in which numbers can be combined or acted upon. The four basic operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (often called the ‘4 rules of arithmetic’). Although many will take these rules for granted and see them as separate operations, the concepts themselves and the way they inter-relate are quite complex – each has a range of facets which take time to absorb. The way the operations are represented in mathematical notation (+, -, x and ÷, and = etc) is not complex however – it is merely a matter of convention which has to be learned and used correctly.
